Our car was hit and damaged by an unknown person in the state of Louisiana (South Louisiana). My husband and I have state farm for all of our vehicles, home coverage , and life insurance policies.

We have always paid on time, never missed a payment or filed a claim for that fact. When we filed a claim for damage done to our vehicle covered under uninsured motorists, we were told by a state farm adjuster that after meeting our $250 deductible that they would only pay $260 to repair only our bumper. Other repairs they refused to make. We are very easy going and agreed to those terms, But the main part of the damage done to our vehicle they refuse to fully restore????

The Body Shop that we were using said that with the damage done to our vehicle that $260 would not even cover the paint, let alone the labor involved. When did state farm adjusters become certified paint and body repair experts??? I thought that is why we bring them to the repair shops for damages to be truly assessed and REPAIRED by EXPERTS. The body shop has clearly stated that there is more damage to just the bumper alone on the vehicle than what their adjuster has estimated and state farm replied to the supplement provided by the body shop by saying that because the Previous Owner had previously done "shotty" repair work to the bumper, they would not approve the claim to fully restore our vehicle to the pristine condition of when we purchased our vehicle.

WHAT??? I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE UNLYING CONDITION OF ANY WORK DONE TO OUR VEHICLE THAT WE COULDN'T SEE WHEN WE PURCHASED THE VEHCILE. IF WE COULD SEE ANY DAMAGE UNDERNEATH THE PAINT, WE PROBABLY WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED THE CAR LIKE ANY OTHER BUYER. WE INSURED OUR CAR WITH STATE FARM BASED ON THE CURRENT, ACTUAL APPRAISED VALUE, CONDITION AND APPEARANCE OF THE VEHICLE WHEN WE PURCHASED IT!!

THEY GLADLY ACCEPTED OUR PAYMENTS. I hope that anyone whose auto(s) are pre-owned(used) and insured with state farm check to see if any repair work previously done to their vehicle was done correctly by the repair shop that the previous owner had used. RIGHT...in a perfect world. WHAT???

We are floored and have always been fans of state farm and praised their ability to pay claims timely, accurately according to the damage done to the insured's vehicle. We had heard other horror stories, but never encountered any bad experiences with state farm ourselves. They could not even provide us with an address of where to file a formal complaint. We were given a different number and different location each time (4x's) we called to find out where to file a formal, internal complaint.

This incident was very hurtful and stressful to us and our family as we actually put our trust along with our payments to state farm to provide insurance coverage according to the policies purchased. What a waste....We never paid late or missed a payment. Still they refuse to restore our car fully based off of what and how the previous owner had work done to the vehicle. What a bunch of CROCK.

We have heard many excuses insurance companies use not to pay customer claims but this is a new one on us. If you are considering state farm as your insurance carrier for auto, home, anything, BEWARE. We trusted the long time name as well. We have filed a formal complaint with the BBB and will wait to hear what happens.

We are sure that Nothing will change, but consumers in Louisiana need to know about the insurance scams that are occurring with state farm, NOTE TO CONSUMERS THINKING ABOUT USING STATE FARM FOR ANYTHING: PLEASE READ ALL THE COMPLAINTS LISTED ON THE BBB AND OTHER SITES. YOU WILL BE AMAZED AT HOW STATE FARM TREATS THEIR CLIENTS AND PAYS THEIR CLAIMS.

Reason of review: REFUSAL TO PAY INSURANCE CLAIMS.

Monetary Loss: $2500.

Preferred solution: Adequate Compensation from State Farm to pay the part of our claim in full to completely restore the damage done to the front bumper of our vehicle..

State Farm Insurance Pros: Our local agent - very pleasant.

State Farm Insurance Cons: Inability to resolve claim.

Location: Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Buyer beware of used vehicles. I know you don't like it but They are repairing your car to its pre loss condition.

I'll try another perspective that maybe you'll understand. The policy that was written was designed to cover exactly what was written into the contract language.

The premiums charged were based on those specific coverages and exclusions.

The rates were calculated based on what risk the insurance company would be taking on. All of this process is put to great scrutiny by regulators and years of laws and standards.

A coverage is only denied when the contract language denies it. Should everyone be held to the same standards according to contract.

Yes, of course. Why should you be paid and the next person who has prior damage denied. It is not covered. Period.

How would it be fair or right to pay something you were not charged for. The contract granted you coverage for those items covered. There is no coverage for excluded items.

Would your answer be to void the contract and just pay randomly based on what you think should be? How would a company charge the proper rates or stay in business?

Understand???Clearly, you are the one that does not understand.

I understand unethical and immoral business practices, which apparently you do not. LET ME PUT IT SO THAT YOU NOT ONLY UNDERSTAND IT BUT GET A CLEAR PICTURE OF IT.

I don't care if you have done this type of work for 26 years or 56 years; some people turn away from their sinful acts earlier than others, while some never turn away from sinful practices or the partaking of them; and that's not saying very much. Your length of service in being a part of the unethical business practices of auto insurance companies says nothing more than you have either practiced or been involved in the practice of scamming auto insurance customers for quite sometime.

WHAT TRULY MATTERS IS INTEGRITY. Not how well you can scam hardworking people to make a buck. Whatever type of twist you may attempt to put on this to suit your rationale to make it seem like this is normal business practices of ALL insurance companies bears no merit or validity.

There are auto insurers who stand by their promises to trust their clients and want to be a valuable asset in aleviating the stressful tasks of restoring their lives to existence prior to any accidents or disasters, NOT A PART OF THE STRESS.

Do not look for a reply after this; simply.because I can see that this is merely a waste of time, and I refuse to assist you in rationalizing the situation, which is also your profession, to ease your immoral conscious. To deny our auto claim based on the principle of a supposedly bad paint job done to our vehicle while in the legal possession of the previous owner is just wrong and unethical by any standards. Come On....I am sure that very few customers, other than the employees of insurance companies who also double up as clients, even know that this supposed ( fine print) policy even exists within the policies outlined by auto insurance companies. Really, just how many customers know this?

We have spoken with several other affluent consumers in the community, and they also agree that this is absurd and ridiculous, and will definitely follow-up with their insurance companies concerning their policies.

Insurance by definition is the GUARANTEE of compensation for specified loss, damage, illness or death in returm for payment of a premium. Get it "Guarantee". LOOK IT UP, THAT MIGHT HELP.

Clearly, state farm obscures the deifintion of insurance to suit its own unethical business practice of denying claims. Not to worry, we have informed not only friends and family but business.

associates of this "so called insurance policy. One person asked, "really, do I need to have my pre-owned vehicle stripped of its parts and paint to determine if any paint and body work done while in the possession of the previous owner was exemplary repair work and not "shotty work"

There's no insurance company around that will pay for prior damage. Been in this business 26 years.

You can scream all day about your "full coverage".

There is no such thing. There are coverages that you have an option to buy or not. Each separate coverage has specific limitations and exclusions based on policy contract language. All contracts exclude prior damage.

It doesn't matter if it is discovered before or after an accident. No insurance policy covers everything.

The length of time you're insured does not change your contract language. Customers insured one day or 100 years will have their coverage applied exactly the way the contract reads. It would be illegal otherwise.

The way you pay your payments also makes no difference. Your contract stays in force only by paying for your policy. No payment, no contract. You're not doing anything special by paying on time.

That's what the contract requires in oder to stay in force.

Insurance estimators and claim reps are highly trained and specialize in vehicle repair. They've been through body shop classes, they're in body shops on a daily basis. Individual reps process approximately 8-10 claims per day.

Multiply that by tens of thousands of claims per day when adding up how many claims the largest auto insurance company in the world handles. I'd bet they have a little more data than your local body repair guy.

Insurance contracts aren't friendships. They're legal documents that determine coverage at the time of a claim.

The party making the claim has the burden of proving payment of the claim is warranted. Only the contract will determine payment.

When you get a foot put in your behind from the very same illegal scam that you have supposedly stood behind for 26 years supposedly, let me see if your comment will still be the same. Doubtfully.

What goes around comes around. The way it is. is really that the world has become the very thing that you say you stand by. which is selfish, money-making immoral and unethical companies that hires employees of the same calibur, whose attitude is as long as I get the money, I do not care about good business ethics, practices and morals and THAT'S THE WAY THAT IT IS.

HONESTY is surely not in this profession. I hope that you find true peace within yourseld one day.....

No one is saying the Insurance contract is wrong! What we are complaining about is the fact that Insurance Companies don't want to honor the contracts they write.

Why do you think attorneys are always suing these same Insurance companies and winning?

If as you claim you've been in the business for a long time, it is a well-known fact that their employees are trained to first deny the claim, then if the client persists and threaten to sue, they try to settle for less than what you are actually supposed to get. Eventually you are forced to sue and you get paid, unfortunately you end up sharing your money with the attorney.

"Well known fact that their employees are trained to first deny the claim". Those uneducated and blatent, ridiculous lies are exactly why there is such ridiculous negativity against the insurance industry as a whole.

Wow!? If you ever actually worked in the industry you would find that adjusters are trained to FIND A WAY TO PAY. If there is coverage, it is paid. The contract determines coverage.

The contract cannot be altered, after the fact.

There are claims that people "think" or "feel" should be covered that just are not. Read your policy. Ask your agent to review it with you.

Don't assume anything. Do your homework. It amazes me the number of people who go online, call a phone number or just ask for a rate quote and NEVER once ask about specifics involving their legal contracts covering their most valuable assets. When something comes up that they ASSUME should or shouldn't happen, it's the evil insurance company's fault.

SMH

This is not about what you "feel" should be paid. It is about what can be paid based on contract language.
