Insurance Cancellation-Penalty

I renewed coverage on Honda Ridgeline early Nov 2012. Discount allowed for multi-vehichle was $74. Mid Nov 2012 I canceled insurance on Ford Ranger because it was sold. State Farm sent a refund check of $46 on the Ranger because it was canceled, Few days later I received a bill from State Farm for $74 because the multi-vehicle discount had been rescinded on the Honda. To sum it up: I SHOULD NOT HAVE CANCELED THE INSURANCE ON THE SOLD VEHICLE (RANGER) because it cost me a net $28. What type of insurance company is so STOOPID they would formulate premiums in this manner? Should we, as insureds. be forever paying for the mistakes (higher premiums) because of the insurance companies' faulty, and reckless underwriting losses? R Sherman Klamath Falls, OR

Sooooooo..what you want is for State Farm to give you a multi-car discount but you only have one car. You do realize "MULTI" means more than one???

Guest

You understand you only get a multi-car discount when you have multiple cars, so there is that. If you live in a state that has a single car, one on each policy, then a change to one policy that will affect the other can have different processing time frames.

If your policy period on the one car is different than the other then a cancellation of the one close to the end of the policy period would produce a small refund especially if the premium for that one is a lot less than the other one. Additionally, this works in reverse if the other car has a longer time remaining in its policy period and its premium is higher.

Leaving State Farm after 37 years

Been with the same Missouri agent (Jim Brackhahn) for 37 years. With four vehicles and residential insurance, not seen or heard from him since 1990 to review policies, etc. Was rear-ended one year ago (2011) and as of today (October, 2012), our claims have still not been settled. It has been a nightmare speaking to the many different 'teams' that State Farm has within their claims departments. Am fed up and now that i have been researching different insurance companies, i find State Farm ranks as one of the worst for claims resolution. I must add the office personnel working for Jim have always been very professional and helpful. Just a shame the agent is not a professional.

State Farm repeatedly ranks in the top 5 on jdpower for claims service and satisfaction. Curious to know where you got this false information?

Guest

I'm a little confused as to why you're upset. You stated you haven't seen or heard from your "agent" since 1990.

Why haven't you set up an appointment? You also stated you are happy with his "professional and helpful personnel". I work for an agency. Do you realize that the personnel in the office are also agents?

They have the same licenses as the agency owner. Their job is to write your policies and service your policies. You probably don't realize that the owner doesn't normally process policies at all. They employ the people who do and provide the funding for the agency to run.

It's unfortunate that you're having a difficult time with your claim, but the agency has no control over your claim and does not make claim decisions.

The claims department does have supervisors and managers. If you're not happy with the "team", ask for a supervisor.

They lied to me about my husbands Policy Coverage

Recently I cleared up all my outstanding tickets with the appropriate courts, and was told by the Judge since there was nothing pending in the court systems, I was eligible with a $55 re issuance fee to obtain my license. After further investigation I was made aware that i also must carry insurance containing a SR-22. Immediately when finding this was all i needed to get my license was Insurance and an additional SR_22 and my license was mine again. I immediately called my Husbands state farm agent to inform them i would no longer be an exclusion on the current policy, as I was getting my license back as soon as i did the two required things, obtain insurance with an additional SR-22. His agent was not available so I was asked if i could possibly be helped by them. I proceeded to explain to them what I needed, they informed me they did not do insurance policy's where you had to have an SR-22, informed me of a couple of companies that might. I wanted my license back so I informed my husband we'd have to switch providers. I found one payed a $300 deposit and made arrangements for monthly automatic billing. immediately called state farm left a message with the agents answering service, and called the insurance company 800 number to cancel the State farm policy before next billing. This all occurred in the 2ND week of October. Yesterday via the mail we get a letter from the State Farm insurance agent, that due to them having to provide an SR-22 for me so I could drive, the policy would be increased and that if i allowed it to lapse by 1 day D.M.V would be notified and my license suspended again. We're still in shock because we've now paid a down Pym, to another company who filed the SR_22 with the D>M>V plus their monthly Pym. for this month, and now State farm, doesn't want to reimburse me because they said they added me like I asked and filed the SR-22 with the D.M.V, with no knowledge to me as i was told they didn't cover this sort of insurance, The new company wants their monthly Pym. as i have it on hold in lieu of waiting to talk to state farm to see if it's a floor am i really covered by them, NOTHING, no one's gotten back to me and i fear I have no insurance, and will loose my license again. I have left numerous messages to that affect and still no response, so do i pay for another month with the new company to guarantee coverage and no loss of my license, just to have state farm automatically bill my acct for insurance they say i have, but I've not gotten nor have they mentioned anything about a card also containing my name on it? Hmm makes me wonder what's really going on. and why can't i get a response from anyone, as they play Russian Roulette with my license thanks but no thanks, because of you state farm we're out of $300 and counting plus

Poor legal representation

Son was in accident that was clearly other parties fault, court agreed. Went to metigation, other parties lawyer convinced judge it my sons fault. He was making a left hand turn on 2 lane road. Other driver who was following decided to pass my son going into on comming traffic lane, hitting my son! No brainer other party at fault. Now they want me to pay 275$ per month to insure him! Brought my total bill to 545$ per month. The rich it get richer, and the poor get poorer. Dropping statefarm so I can feed my family. My son has agreed to live on campus without a car. Found cheaper rates elsewhere. Do not pay their high rates! They will not back you when you need them!

Calm down. Your post makes you look like a hot head and dull.

A bit more details and facts would help you to be understood.

By the way, in most areas, you car insurance policy covers just the CAR and not your personal property in your car. Having stuff stolen out of your car is a major bummer because you now have two claims. One under the car and one under the home/condo/renter policy. Which means you have two deductibles to deal with and usually the one of the is a lot higher than the other.

This is why I tell my customers to not leave valuables in the car. If you must then put them in the trunk.

Also, a high quality alarm system is cheaper than paying two deductibles. Of course it should go without saying that if your vehicle does not have a trunk that you should make sure item are not in site AND have a really good alarm and take care where you park your vehicle.

How my rate are higher with 26 years exp to someone that only has 4 years

everyone in the household are all on the same policy and the policy under my boyfriends name and his mom past away on 1/1/13 and his mother and his sister are on the same car and on the title and I can understand that his sister paying low insurance while she on there with her mother like $45 a month but now that her mother past away I thought her rates would go up she's only been driving for 4 years I have been driving 26 year and I pay more and my car is older then her's. I pay $60. and I don't think this is fair. And I have a good driving record. how can this be, and when I talked to the insurance agent she told me her insurance would stay the same, this is just not right.

We were just 9 days late and sent a letter threatening to terminate our policy! Good grief.

They are behind paying me replacement services for injuries sustained, and decided that I no longer needed help after a cervical dissection and said I all better despite what my doctors have said. They stopped paying as of April 2013.

Guest

Just 39 Day's Late.Like that's nothing.WTF Did you think they were going to do?Pay the BILL FOR YOU.You are a ***.No Complaint what so ever. What if you had,Had an accident?Would you have had the nerve to ask "Wait (39)Day's and I will see what i can come up with.

Guest

generally you have MAYBE 22 days to make a late payment and that is by grace from many companies... Can you get a gallon of milk from walmart and say ima pay you next month?> same with buying your car.

you mentioned honda? mhmm last i checked they repo cars if you are late.

In regards to your cancelation LAW IS LAW. no insurance company can bend rules.

Guest

Clearly, you do not understand how the law works. It is ILLEGAL to drive without insurance in your state.

ALL insurance companies are required, BY LAW, to report your cancellation. You will be fined and if you fail to pay your fines, your license will be suspended. That's not the insurance company's fault, honey. It's yours.

Pay on time and be very happy that you didn't hit someone while you were cancelled. You may have lost everything.

Guest

Gee whiz! Over a month late and they cancelled you .

Big surprise. Pay your bills on time and it won't happen.

Stay away from State Farm They screwed me!!!

I call what state farm does the ste farm 2 step. I have a transmission damaged by road debris aNd was told an adjuster would come take a look. *** he dId. I was told to get several estimates. I did. The estimates range from 2200/2800. The crooks of State Farm sent me 606.00. I refused the money and demanded a fair payment. They insist the trans must now be romoved and inspected again even though an adjuster alread viewed the damage. The adjuster claimed he did not see the large crack although I saw it when I was under the truck and that is why I called in the claim. State farm will not give the trans shop a p.o. number to start the work they want me to sign and take financial responsibility. They are bad people.

Identity theft.

I went to get new insurance since statefarm had a hard time transferring my insurance to a new car. In my honest thoughts of The agent I don't think he should be anywhere near an insurance office. So when I called for insurance they have put a claim under my name. The claim was not my car involved and was not the driver infact I don't know who this claim is made from. I called statefarm to clear it up and they said they will look into it they also blacklisted me from unpaid insurance even though I gave them 4 months notice this happened at the clayseabroke office in guelph

Dog owner to foot the bill

On October 7th this year, my mother and 2 sisters were walking up the road to my house. They were on the left side of the road and I live on the right. My dog went out to greet them and was hit by a car and killed in front of my 9 year old son and his 2 younger cousins. My sister said the driver was travelling too fast. I just got off the phone with Statefarm and they told me they will be persuing me for the damage to the car that hit my dog. Statefarm, some neighbour!

Well---------it WAS your dog. And, it was loose.

And, when the car hit the mutt, the car was damaged, apparently.

You need to take responsibility. For a change.

State Farm Is Lazy

Our family has auto and home insurance with State Farm. I personally have been insured with them for the past 10+ years, bringing my spouse and child onto the policy beginning in 2004 and 2010. We received a letter in the mail from State Farm indicating that due to an "excessive, recent" amount of activity on our policy, that they were dropping my son. This notification came 2.5 weeks before the deadline and there was no other explanation. After speaking with the agent/office, we were told that not only was our son going to be dropped, but that upon our renewal, we too were going to be dropped. Once all of our vehicles, which include 1 pickup truck, 1 mini van, 2 motorcycles, a $150K+ home and all of it's contents, and my son's vehicle, then our homeowners insurance would go up by $1000K. Ultimately we found out on our own, that another company had put the information on our record because my spouse and his father have the same name. Different birth dates, ages, residency, driver's license number and everything. Instead of State Farm doing the job we have paid over $300 p/m to do, we have been given the responsibility of doing the research to figure this out and still we are told that we are being dropped for something that was not our fault or our claim!! This is fair???????

Raised auto insurance premium mid-cycle

I have been a State Farm customer for 20 years and have an impeccable driving record. On October 16, I made a premium payment of $150 towards my $252.02 semi-annual premium. I received a bill of $108.02 that included the remaining premium and a fee for split payment due December 18. Yesterday, I received a new bill of $143.97. When I inquired about the increase in mid-cycle, I was told that rates can go up at any time. This has never happened before. I made a payment to continue my coverage based on the agreed upon coverage. If rates need to increase, they should not be effective until the next billing cycle (for me, it would be April 2013). I have never filed a claim to utilize the services and also have a homeowner's and a rental policy with this provider. This is not a fair way to treat a customer. I am shopping for a new provider today.

Sounds like you recently filled out a mileage questionairre sent to you from the company. Did you?

If so, you've been being charged for lower mileage than you have actually been driving and it's finally been applied to your policy. Other reasons for changes in premium during mid-cycle are adding a driver, changing coverages or deductibles also, your credit is randomly run and can drastically affect your insurance premiums. Have you changed vehicles? Have you added another driver?

Has your age changed and your're over the age of 75? Lots and lots of reasons rates change mid-cycle.

It happens with every insurance company. Rates are based on about 80 factors and your driving record is only one of them.

I am currently filling a complaint with the Michigan Insurance commision over this behavior. There is no justification for a rate increase, its called risk investment for a reason. Insurance companies may not legally and arbitraily change rates without informing the customer.

Imagine this scenario, you drop your car off to get it fixed, they qoute you $225 for front brake, and you get charged $1400 and they put on a new front end.

it is illegal to do this in my state and I am going to enjoy watching state farm take it in the *** ove this.

Apparently NC allows this type of behavior to take place. Bummer.

reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-572267

I did not receive any such questionaire. I have had a 10 mile commute to work for many, many years.

I didn't add a driver and have had the same car for 5 years. I'm also 35 with no points or accidents. After I made a formal complaint, they raised the rate again. One representative told me it was because they consider my area a higher risk area, another told me that the rates increased because of a hurricane on the coast.

What a rip off. I miss the State Farm that had integrity.

Insurance Canceled-Penalty

I canceled insurance on my 1998 Ford Ranger when I sold it mid-Nov 2012. State farm refunded $48 based on pro-rata days insurance in force during 6 mos renewal period. Vehicle had ben insured with them for several years. Refund was correct based on days-insured during the 6 months. However, a week later I received a bill for an additional $78 on another vehicle's insurance (Honda), the premium having been previously paid early Nov 2012. State Farm listed the reason for the additional premium as "...loss of Multi-Car discount...". It COST me $30 TO CANCEL THE POLICY ON THE FORD!! How can this be? Both vehicles were under insurance and in force several years; each with different 6-month renewals. I regret having informed State Farm of the sale. I could have saved $30 by keeping quiet. What might have happened if the buyer had been in an accident?

"What might have happened if the buyer had been in an accident"? If you're suggesting that you failing to notify your insurer that your vehicle no longer belonged to you, would somehow transfer coverage to the new buyer...well, you're buyer would be completely out of luck.

No coverage, none. Once you sold the car, your coverage ended. If you didn't tell your insurer, you'd just continue to pay for a policy you couldn't use. No one can purchase insurance on a vehicle they do not own.

As for losing the multi-car discount, well, it's a MULTI-CAR discount. You don't have multiple cars any longer, you don't get the discount. Guess what else, State Farm lost the premium you were giving them for two vehicles. They aren't going to fork over an extra discount to you for taking money away from them.

You lost $30. They lost the total amount of the premium you were paying.

John N Mzy

You are incorrect. As they said, you lost your multi-car discount. This is common.
