First of all, my husband died unexpectedly recently and he handled all of this stuff. I had wind/hail damage to my home.

First of all, I got lectured from my AGENT about having "ANOTHER" claim. Adjuster came out, didn't even go up on roof, gave me a check for $2400. Then I turned in $350 for tree removal and they paid that. Found out my deductible was $1965!

Yikes. So I had contractor come out and give estimate. I faxed it in. Then the fun began, person handling my claim and contractor played phone tag a million times.

Finally after talking State farm tells him hes off on measurements that THEY have Eagle and can see. Well hello, why didn't you do that in the first place? So basically after all said and done, I get $3335.00 to have a NEW roof put on my house. Where am I going to find a contractor do put a roof on for that?

Seriously? I was giving a check for $2400, and now I have to send in a SIGNED contract BEFORE the other $1500!! I would THINK State Farm would want the roof done but I honestly don't know ANYONE that is going to put a new roof on for that price!! Honestly what is the POINT in having homeowners insurance if it doesn't PAY for anything!!

I felt like a child being reprimanded!!!!! VERY DISGUSTED with this INS.

Reason of review: See Comments .

Monetary Loss: $6500.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

And what you have to be very careful about is that State Farm has no responsibility for the quality of the new roof. What State Farm does is estimate your roof replacement based upon 2 illegal aliens with a hammer, not on a reputable roofing contractor with warranties and people with skills.

What you should do is use the reputable contractor and pay the extra money. That extra money is what State Farm cheated you out of.

You'll feel even worse when your policy is cancelled for being a high risk for future claims. Insurance is for catastrophes and very large losses.

According to statistics, most people have one homeowner loss every 17 years. If you've gone above that and are continuing to make claims, look for a non-renewal soon. It sounds like your agent was trying to help you by giving you this common advice.

Do not make claims less than $5,000 and raise your deductible to at least that.

Hopefully, you'll have the option to make that choice if you're renewed.

As for your roof, insurance owes for the damaged area of your roof.

If only one section is damaged and you want to replace the whole roof due to matching issues or wear and tear, that's your responsibility as a homeowner. Insurance does not owe for an entire roof that is partially damaged.

Doesn't State Farm present itself as a company with an agent to help the lady through these issues? Instead she has been dumped to a claims agent whose job it is pay only the most minimum cost that he can come up with.

The claims agent knows all the tricks and manipulations, makes an evaluation of how dumb his customer is and then makes his minimal estimate.

Hands her a check and walks off.

I might add. The ruse that is always used by State Farm agents is that the roofing contractors' estimates are dimensionally wrong.

That they are right. It is their standard response to issues where the contractor's estimate is high compared to their estimate. They know that you will not go up on the roof and make precise measurements so that you can argue with them.

And even if you did, State Farm will never show you their calculations in any form that can you can check.

No, Chester, State Farm agents are sales reps. They're not licensed adjusters.

Claim handling is left to the claims personnel who are licensed and specialize in their field. A sales agent is a store front who markets products and is paid for their expertise and advice in the type of product a client needs to manage the risk they face. Sales agents are there to get the claim process started and handle emergency funds upon approval of the company claims department. You're mistaken with what you believe to be a sales agent's responsibilities.

Sales agents also do not make underwriting decisions. They set up the policy, but do not have final authority and cannot override underwriting decisions. Sales agents do not handle billing, that too is handled by specific departments. Agents set up the initial billing and collect funds.

Again, another department that specializes in that area. State Farm Agents are trained and licensed to sell.
