I asked state farm to provide me an auto insurance quote. An agent got in touch with me Neal Peterson he spoke to me over a phone, asked me the information he needed and told me he will send a quote across. He did as he said. The quote was $919 for 6months. I was like ok it covers everything what I had in the past. I logged into the quote and realized he had valued a certain claim too high (made one change) the price of the policy dropped to $847 ($919-$72= $847). I brought the policy. next morning he called and told me that I might be charged the $72 for the change i have made after his inspection and will know in the future. I said ok cool let me know.

weeks later I get mail stating i have $72 pending, call the agent and make the payment. I called the Neal and asked him ok let me know how to go ahead and make the payment of $72. He informed that there has been some error from my end and I owe $228.96 to state farm. He added (I have this on email) its you who made the changes and now this cost are arriving. In my defense the total policy was $919 and not $1075 so if I did modify anything in the insurance it was $72 and not additional $156 (from where did this surface from?)

After a lot of discussion and blame game he realized it was an error on his end. He told me he had checked some renters policy discount (a discount which kicks in if you buy a renters policy- which I did not and never said I want to).and the $72 from the modification. He accepted it but I was already disappointed with him and how he was handling the situation. Never ever had a agent( customer facing person act in this way)

So I logged in to the account today (after 15 days of blame game my agent played with me) to see what is all these cost about, looks like now another bill is generated for $73.4 (is this the same $ 72 (because after a bill of 228 was generated $72 bill had vanished from the billing system) or did something else up or $72 got added up with interest- so confused). So now the policy is $847+$228+$73.4 =$1149??? which is way way higher then any other quotes.

The service was poor, there was no communication (other then mail) unless I bothered to send an email or call. I just called in to cancel( the customer support said it should be done tomorrow, so I will know how that goes, I questioned about how will the refund take place- was told I will know tomorrow) and brought another insurance. Hoping I never have such an experience again. This took away somuch of my time, because of the inability of my agent to give me the right quote and solve issues which came up. Worst experience ever. I was just wondering if the buying process is so bad imagine if there are any claims how they handle it.

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota
