Verified Reviewer |- - Insurer overcharged and refused to cover bills.
- - Drive Safe and Save app drained battery and was merged later.
- - Bills ranged from $60 to $130.
If a company raises your bill without first informing you and if they inform you that it's because "inflation" that is demonstrably false.
After I complained, they updated the app several months later and combined the two services. They still continued to raise my bill. My lowest bill was $60, and my highest bill was $130.
After I canceled my other agent, 'Clint Mosley,' he still tried to bill me for nonexistent services and threatened to send it to collections. My current agent re-credited my bill down to $80 but then raised it back to $100.
- Easy setup
- Responsive
- Ease of access
- Lack of transparency
- Rate hikes
- Will not cover anything under any circumstance

Verified ReviewerAI has taken over and it sucks.
- - AI changes made key-code payments impossible.
- - I can't use the app or pay online.
- - The bill shows a due date, but none is due and I must call my agent.
AI is going to be your downfall. I have been with State Farm since I have been driving since the '80s and my family before.
Ever since the company has switched to AI, it has gone downhill. I cannot pay my bill using a key code anymore. I cannot use the app. I can't even pay online.
It's funny. I have the bill in my hand that says when it is due, but I am told no bill is due. The only way I can pay is to call my agent every month. Which isn't bad, but I was using the 1-800 number with the key code.
Don't fix something that is not broken. My agent is great, but the system sucks.
- Good agent
- Ai sucks

Verified ReviewerDishonest bastards are perpetrating insurance fraud against us!
- - Tornado damaged a 2018 Nissan Rogue; claim processing has been slow.
- - Rental issues: 7-day limit vs 30 days and BBB complaint helped restore rental.
So I fired State Farm yesterday. I have the state agency that regulates them in Missouri investigating them for fraud. One of the very worst companies I’ve ever been unfortunate enough to do business with but they will never see another dime from me in this lifetime!
State Farm continues to ignore the well-correlated comparables and instead keeps sending me the absolute garbage data set developed by their third party *** partners in an ongoing attempt to defraud us.
She missed a few days of work and has had so much trouble trying to get the claim processed reasonably that I had to take it over. So much for learning a bit about adulting. Thanks for being a lousy company, State Farm!
State Farm screwed up having it towed, made her an appointment at a rental car company that didn't have any cars available, notified us we only had 7-day of rental car instead of the 30 in the policy on Friday before Memorial Day (wife and I are both VA-rated disabled Veterans) and pulled back the rental the next week (note: a BBB complaint convinced them to restore the rental but they took that action after the car had been returned and they had paid the bill - lousy rotten bastards!).
So...what else? How about this: they're rejecting the comparables I've provided from the two largest used car resellers in the United States and instead are sending us comparables that have very poor correlation with the loss vehicle.
How poor? What about including cars with more than double the miles, cars from California and listings from months ago.
So they're refusing to accept well-correlated comparables and keep sending me the same garbage comparables. Today they declared that we're at an impasse and told me they want me to spend money to hire an independent appraiser.
Actually, they want me to spend money on three independent appraisers. I'm thinking the right answer is to hire a lawyer instead.
Dirty, rotten bastards!
- Do a fair job of dodging class action lawsuits
- Will do their best to screw you over
- Claims process is horrible
- Agent is great but claims folks suck
Preferred solution: These dishonest bastards need to pay us what the car is worth and stop trying to defraud us
User's recommendation: Stay way far away from State Farm - agent may be great but their claims process will screw you through the drive thru!

- - State Farm sent documents claiming I settled electronically, which I did not.
- - Complaints mishandled; password-change appeared on June 20, 2025.
State Farm claims adjuster in Atlanta, send repeated documents to my email without ever speaking with me first about a settlement and claim I signed an electronic document to accept a settlement in which I didnt. When I asked to file a complaint they referred me to someone that was not the right person to file a complaint with.
When my complaint was denied with that person, I filed a complaint with the State Commissioner and State Farm responded with a lie claiming they spoke with me but however, they didnt.
When I originally filed my claim I told State Farm I was hurt and will be receiving medical treatment. On that same day is when they claimed they offered me a settlement and I accepted it.
This is all false!
In June 20, 2025 Someone from State Farm requested that my username and password be changed on my account but it wasnt me I would like to know who made this request?
Combined with misrepresentation, bad faith handling of my claim, and possible fraudulent actions, this has caused me a lot of stress. I filed complaints with the Insurance Commissioner and other agencies, but my concerns were not properly addressed.

Verified Reviewer |Takes your money, never approve claims!
- - State Farm insured me nearly 40 years with 3 small claims.
- - Feb microburst roof damage; claim denied.
- - Non-renewed; $22k for roof; switched insurers.
Was a State Farm Insurance customer for nearly 40 years! Have only submitted 3 claims in that time (all under $10,000).
Submitted a claim to get a new roof on my house, as a storm last February took a lot of shingles off. State Farm dude inspects the roof and, in his opinion, the damage was all from the storm in February! We had a MICROBURST over our house with horrific winds and he ended up denying our claim! Then, because of this, our State Farm Homeowners insurance was set to "Non Renew!" We had to pay $22,000, out of pocket, to get a new roof put on.
Once we were able to "renew" our policy we didn't. I found another company for our Homeowners Insurance, as well as for our truck, our RV, our 2 side by sides, our travel trailer - everything! Dumped State Farm and got BETTER insurance, with LOWER DEDUCTIBLES, at WAY LESS than State Farm! Plus, before all of this happened, I was just browsing our policies with them and noticed that they showed our vehicles "parked" at an address that wasn't our home!
In fact, they were "parked" at the State Farm insurance agent office location, 50 miles away! I figured if there was any damage done to them, at "home" where we "park" it and it didn't actually show our home address, the claim would be denied. I immediately called and had them put my actual home address as the address where the vehicles were "parked" and they did. Immediately, I owned hundreds more dollars for insurance on these vehicles!
Unreal! I will never go back to insuring with them!
Preferred solution: Absolutely nothing from them! Ever again!
User's recommendation: Don't Use State Farm for ANY of your insurance needs!
Keep the humans!
- - App maintenance is needed.
- - Needed a current ID copy on 4/20/26 and only expired IDs appeared.
- - A human fixed the issue after AI bot failures.
1st thing they could do is maintain their app appropriately! I needed a current copy of my i.d.
cards early morning of 4/20/26.
The only ones showing had expired in Feb with a msg saying thay new cards are updated 30 days prior to expiration ( this was obviously more than 30 days) After many failed attempts with AI autobots I was able to reach a human who corrected the problem for me. Keep the humans please!

- - Agent explained driver discount.
- - He helped enroll with windshield tag and the app.
- - System tracks speed, braking, acceleration, cornering; saves $1,000.
My agent informed me of a driver discount that would help me reduce my semi-annual premium. He assisted me with the enrollment and the windshield tag and the phone app, which I have used for several years now.
The system monitors my speed, acceleration, braking, and corner turning averages whenever I drive.
I have regularly realized semiannual savings of $1,000+ on my 6-month premiums for the past several years. I normally drive within the posted speed limit.

- - I filed a roof-damage claim after wind and rain.
- - Adjuster came despite my instruction not to come.
- - Rude call frightened me; I asked for another.
I filed a claim when my roof was damaged due to heavy winds and rain. The claim adjuster came on a day that I specifically said not to come.
It was raining and I wasn't going to be home. The guy came anyway. He was so incredibly rude to me when we spoke later on the phone. His extremely angry tone frightened me.
I requested a different person as I felt scared. I contacted my agent's office and was told I had to continue with this guy even though I was so scared. I let the office staff know how upset I was but the agent never called me back.
I always thought State Farm was a good company. What happened?

My car has been in the shop for almost 30 days and they are still trying to find a way not to fix my car r total it out. I have missed work bc I can not afford an uber there and back. When I call they have been so rude to me. Will not give me a time frame for anything.

Verified ReviewerCould not get his lies straight hanging up on me unprofessional overall experience once the young man ended up writing my policy was no longer with the company I should have known.
- - •State Farm mixed up emails and linked a US vet staying with me to my policy.
- - •Policy canceled over an accident I did not cause; reps were unhelpful.
I called the State Farm office, not knowing the original person who ended up writing my policy was no longer with the company. At that point, they kept saying, 'Oh, we can help you'.
I said, 'OK, I'm calling to give you a referral, who is a United States vet, who will be staying with me for two weeks until his housing is available.' Nine months later, I called back and asked a question, 'Why is this man's information coming into my email?'. I was then told, 'Oh, sorry, we got the emails mixed up, don't worry.' I didn't question, 'Am I paying for his insurance along with mine?' 'Oh no, no, no we're going to fix it. Don't worry.' Well, 11 months later, I received a letter stating that my insurance will be cancelled due to an accident with someone in your household. I called back and said, 'You told me that there was no cross reference.
I wouldn't have a problem. His insurance is his insurance. Your insurance is your insurance.' I was told I needed to prove that he no longer lived with me. I don't think I need to do any of that.
I'm telling you he doesn't live with me. 'What do you want to do; you're not going to take my word so what happens?' 'I'll try to fix it,' says the State Farm agent, and 'I'll give you a call.' But I get nothing. I call him. He pretends like he doesn't even know what I'm talking about and then all of a sudden, every tidbit he would mention something that I knew he knew what he was talking about.
He remembers me but hung up on me, treating me like crap and then got pissed off when he realized that my company insurance was not with him. That was never, ever cross-referenced. His excuse was 'He lives in your household, so your insurance is affected too.' You can't tell me that because he and I never had it affect anything. It was all lies.
You should go to Allstate or go anywhere except for State Farm. He is so unprofessional. Ray or Lewis, he refused to tell me his real name. If this is what you want to represent your brand, more power to you.
You will never get another dollar from me. So, they cancelled his insurance without telling him and he quickly listened to someone on the base and got USAA insurance which was cheaper. And then, I received a letter stating they needed information on the accident, that I have no knowledge of. The US knows about it, I don't.
So, why would you question me and cancel my policy when I had nothing to do with an accident and his stuff was not supposed to be on my policy? So, let's go back to the fact that I helped out and, when I called them out on it, they claimed they cleaned it up and they did not.
Judging from all the complaints on here, you either need to shut down, rename, or get rid of your bad agents. I will be speaking with an attorney.
- Very nasty and lie to your face
- Habitual liar
Preferred solution: Full refund
User's recommendation: Get rid of your agent. Or return my money since I paid on time every month.
Terrible untrustworthy company.
- - State Farm totaled the car and offered $5,300.
- - They want receipts to raise the offer.
- - Rental issues with Enterprise left me with no car.
I had posted about what State Farm had dont to me when someone wrecked my car about a month ago. Well its still not completed.
They finally agreed to total out my car and they will not give me what the blue book value of the car. They want to give me 5300$ and then say if u have receipts for anything I did to car and we can have raised. I give them almost 3k worth of bills and they raise 400$. Just nothing but lies.
Then they tell me my rental will be extended and they said they called enterprise but ofcourse enterprise says no and my rental was towed with everything in it and was missing when I went inside enterprise to make sure they had car and my stuff. Now I have no car and no way of getting to either of my jobs.
They are putting me in the poor house and I have no money to pay bills with 90 days of them trying every thing not to pay me. Its not a Ferrari for goodness sakes its 2012 acura lt.

Verified ReviewerNever-Ever had an issue
- - State Farm customer since 1974 with multiple cars and homes; claims have been handled well.
- - Roof replacement was significant; professionalism by all.
I have used State Farm since 1974 to insure multiple cars, houses, and even professional extended liability coverage. Every claim I have made, has been handled with the best of results.
My most recent claim (roof replacement) was the most significant.
The professionalism by all concerned was above board.
I do understand the high number of complaints, and I suspect those are from what I call "shoppers"! If you're looking for the best insurance, it pays to stay with a first-line company, even if it means a bit higher rate for coverage,
User's recommendation: Select State Farm and stay with them if you wan the best service.

Verified ReviewerThey Lie, and They Laugh
- - State Farm pressed me to switch to homeowners and auto, with assurances.
- - Hours before expiry, they declined coverage and I will switch insurers.
State Farm pursued me for homeowners insurance, convinced me to switch to them for homeowners and auto, promised up and down for weeks, despite my reservations, that everything was just fine right up to the 11th hour, and then, hours before my existing homeowners insurance policy expired, called to say they are declining coverage.
I have found new homeowners insurance and will be moving my auto insurance from State Farm as well. Special shout out to JT Gould and Alex Mcgehee with State Farm in Louisiana for being uniquely terrible. Pro tip: Do not LAUGH when breaking the news to a homeowner that, actually, she's not going to be insured past tomorrow.
Preferred solution: Nothing. I just don't want anyone else to be as stupid as I was to trust them.

- - Complaint dept has no phone number; only online or email is available.
- - SF canceled policy without notice; 18 months later tried to re-sign.
I called looking for the complaint department. They told me there is no number I can call, that it has to be online or via email.
They gave me an email for Gainsco, which they told me bought State Farm, but it is likely the other way around. They gave me 888-424-**** as a number to call for Gainsco, instead of the correct 866-424-****. At any rate, Gainsco said they are only affiliated with SF, do not even write in my state, and could be of no help. This all followed from SF canceling my policy without notice or review for a triviality, but then eighteen months later, trying to re-sign me, even after me explaining several times they lost all credibility.
How could I trust them with insuring my home if they cannot even properly manage the onboarding process?
When I finally abruptly ceased communication, they became openly hostile and attacked me personally. I am not surprised that their customer service department also sucks.
User's recommendation: Don't be one.

Are they ordering you to hire an appraiser or are they telling you “here’s what our appraiser says it’s worth” , you don’t agree and they said then get your own appraisal? You make it sound like they are asking you to pay their in-house appraiser from the get-go.
Good question. The answer is that we disagree on the valuation so they want me to pick an appraiser, they'll pick one and then the two appraisers are to meet and select a third appraiser.
They expect me to spilt the cost of all that nonsense with them because they still refuse to accept the far better correlated comparables I've provided.
Beyond that, they are attempting to reject some of my comparables based on distance but the unethical SOBs included comparables in their valuation from over 1600 miles away. They are digging themselves one *** of *** There's quite a class-action lawsuit brewing in all of this because they have an unethical approach to determining valuation.
No - those fine Americans think that we need to hire an fire team of appraisers: I hire one, they'll hire a second one and those two will put their heads together on selecting a third person. State Farm thinks all of this is reasonable yet won't consider the pile of comparables I've provided.
Seems like complete nonsense and they expect me to cover half the cost of those three completely unnecessary appraisals. We're only $3k apart, for goodness sakes! Terrible insurance company! Avoid them at all costs.
Their agents may be wonderful but the claims process is their downfall. I understand from my agent that she loses a lot of business anytime someone has a claim.
What value of the car has SF come up with ? What value are the comps you have come up with?
Great question! Loss vehicle was a 2018 Nissan Rogue S with exactly 63,247 miles on it.
I constructed searches on a number of different platforms that included pretty restrictive criteria in order to really zero in on actual cash value. I specified no accident history, mileage between 60-70k, must be S trim line and no previous fleet/rental usage. Basically, I described our vehicle to a tee and came up with $17,448. Worth noting is that this proposed valuation I've provided is lower than it would be were they to apply their mileage adjustment as almost all comparables had more miles than the loss vehicle.
I also cut them a break by not including shipping on any of the comparables even though it ranged from $300-****, depending on the vehicle. What they provided as comparables aren't really comparable. They included vehicles with as many as 148,300 miles, included different trim lines, included comparables from more than 90-days ago and also as far away as California. *** they even tried to pass off one comparable as two because they must think their policyholders are too stupid to spot something like that.
Their number is $14,729. Pretty hard to believe a company like State Farm is willing to have a policyholder absolutely wail on them over a $3k difference. Even more shocking given that we have been paying about $20k/year in premiums across all of the State Farm policies we currently hold.
Obviously. they are losing our business!
Why is SF not paying out cash for repair or if totaled the value?
The problem is they declared the car a total loss but are trying to lowball the settlement by over 20%. They refuse to consider either set of comparables I’ve provided.
They are trying to convince me that mathematical adjustments to the cost of dissimilar vehicles is more accurate than the comparables I provided. For example, I searched for vehicles (exact same make, model and trim level) with between 60-70k miles because that describes the vehicle in the picture. They are trying to use mathematical computations (and won’t show the math) to adjust the value of one of their comparables that has over 130k miles. There’s not really a single comparable they provided that’s as close of a match as what I found through my research, which was shared with them.
No reasonable person would agree with their approach when much more similar vehicles are currently on the market.
They’ve also been trying to include vehicles that were in the market 3+ months ago and don’t really match our car very well either. Complete ***
They are busy trying to really screw us over on the valuation. My comparables that I've provided are far better correlated to the loss vehicle than theirs are.
We are about $3k apart and they are behaving horribly.
Now they want to hire appraisers and spend a bunch of our money because exercising a little bit of common sense is apparently way too much to ask. Dirty rotten bastards!
Mainly because they suck! There's a reason I've filed a couple of written complaints against them with the Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance.
I believe their behavior on our claim is unethical and likely illegal. Try googling this: State Farm class action auto valuation.
They are getting sued all over the place because of their various attempts to defraud their policyholders when they experience a total loss. Real *** behavior!
